Riya was planting some seedlings in a flower bed 5 m long. She put the first seedling a quarter
metre from the start. Then she planted seedlings every 5 m. She did not realise that she was using a half-metre scale which was actually only 45 cm long. How many seedlings did she plant, if she left a quarter metre at the other end also?

Answer:

hi

Step-by-step explanation:

The seedlings are at an equal distance in a straight line.

Distance between 3rd seedling and 5th seedling = 9/10 m

So, distance between 3rd seedling and 4th seedling = 9/10 ÷ 2 = 9/20 m

So, the distance between two seedlings in a line = 9/20 m

The given distance between 2nd seedling and the last seedling = 6 3/4 m = 27/4 m

Starting from 2nd seedling:

9/20 * x = 27/4

Where x = the number of times 9/20 to reach the last seedling.

x = 15

So, from 2nd seedling we need to move 15 positions to get a distances of 27/4.

Moving from 2 to 17, we get 17 as the last seedling.

So, the total number of seedlings = 17 seedlings.
