Prithviraj Chauhan led the Rajput army in the Battles of Tarain fought in 1191 and 1192 against the Ghurid force led by Shahabuddin Muhammad Ghori. He won the first battle and captured his enemy whom he later on released. Chauhan was defeated at the second battle following which he was captured.

The battle was fought in Tarain, In the first battle of Tarain Prithviraj Chauhan defeated Muhammad Ghori and capture him as his prisoner but later he released him, which is called to be the biggest mistake of his life because Ghori came back and the second battle was fought in Tarain and this time Prithviraj Chauhan get defeated and he was captured by Ghori. But he took his revenge on Ghori and killed him in his own province.
