Imagine the cells to be made of Legos in place of atoms. If the cell has to grow, Legos obvioisly don't reproduce, coz you know, they're inanimate objects. But, the cell as a living entity can rearrange the Lego blocks to make room for more Lego blocks. It can let in and throw out different Lego blocks constantly as it is living, and also make a larger outer membrane just to accommodate more Lego blocks inside of it. The outer membrane of a cell is so dynamic that the lipds and proteins keep adding extra molecules as the cells grow.
