Situations where the rail transport cannot be opted, the road transport replaces its role to serve the people. So, rail and road transport are in complement to each other, and not competitive. Few of the reasons are stated below.

-Railway transport is effective for long distance travel, but Road transport is comfortable for minimum distance travel.

-All locations in the country are not supported with both road and rail transport, in that case, part of the travel can be done via road and the other part via rail. Thus, by linking both the transport, the service can be used effectively.

-Easily bio-degradable goods can be transported via road and non-degradable goods can be transported via rail.
