  1. Roadways are much cheaper to construct than railways.
  2. They can transverse much dissected and undulating topography.
  3. Places like mountains and other hilly regions where it is difficuilt to lay railway tracks, roads can easily be laid.
  4. It is economical in transportation of few materials and relatively smaller amounts of goods over shorter distances.
  5. It provides door to door service , hence cost of loading and unloading decrases.
  6. Acts as a feeder to other modes of transport such as they link ralway stations, airports, seaports.
