roasting is a process of extracting metals from the sulphide ores by heating them in presence of excess of oxygen and in high temperature this is carried out on sulphide ores only in order to form oxides out of the ores

done only on sulphide ores in order to remove sulphur as sulphur gets vanished away in form of gas.

hope it helps!!
