Given :  Rohit is planning a 3 minutes display of fireworks show on diwali. He decides tyat a red firework should go off every 20 seconds and a white firework should go off every 15 seconds. The 3 minutes (180 seconds) display begins with both the red and white fireworks going off at the same time.

To find : How many seconds will pass until both the red and white fireworks go off at the same time again

How many times during 3 minutes display will both the red and white fireworks go off at the same time

Solution:

red firework should go off every 20 seconds

white firework should go off every 15 seconds.

LCM of 20 & 15

20 = 2 * 2 * 5

15 = 3 * 5

=> LCM = 2 * 2 * 3 * 5  = 60 Sec

60 Secs = 1 MIn

60 Secs / 1 MIn  will pass  until both the red and white fireworks go off at the same time again

Total time = 3 Mins

3/1  = 3

3 times during 3 minutes display will both the red and white fireworks go off at the same time

or 4 times if we consider 1st one at 0 sec instead of 1  sec

0 Min , 1 Min , 2 Min , 3 Min  ( 4 times )
