Role of catalytic converter and electrostatic precipitator  is to convert more harmful pollutants into less harmful pollutants. for in stance car exhaust are fitted with catalytic converter to prevent emission of poisonous gases such as carbon (II) oxide i.e carbon monoxide to carbon (IV) oxide.  This is achieved through oxidation of carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst to carbon (IV) oxide. On the other hand electrostatic precipitator applies the principle electric energy to remove particulate matter from gases or air.

Catalytic converter: An emission control device converting the toxic gases from the exhaust gases into less-toxic pollutants is called a catalytic converter.

Role:

  • Catalyze a redox reaction
  • Reduces emissions of Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen oxides and Hydrocarbons

Electrostatic precipitator: A filter that removes dust and smoke using the force of an induced electrostatic charge is called as an electrostatic precipitator.

Role:

  • Efficient way of removing dust particles
  • Do not cause a pressure drop
