Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
At the age of 19 months, she contracted with meningitis, which left her deaf and blind. In 1886, Helen’s mother, went for an advice to the physician J. Julian Chisolm, an eye, ear, nose, and throat specialist in Baltimore.
Chisholm referred the Kellers to Alexander Graham Bell, who was working with deaf children at the time.
