ELC stands for Electoral Literacy Club. ELCs can play a significant role in improving electoral registration in the following ways:

1. Making the people aware of their rights- Many people, especially in the rural areas are not even aware that they have the right to vote. Women and the elderly often believe whatever the males in charge of the household tell them and do not understand their right to vote. SImilarly, teenagers who have just become adults need to be educated about the same and motivated to vote. ELCs can help spread this information through talks, pamphlets and even by circulating videos on social media.

2. Explaining how to use the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)- Even if people want to vote, they are often hesitant about voting because they do not know how to operate the EVMs. It is important to make them comfortable with the voting process. Also, they have to be reassured about the integrity of the EVMs. The ELCs can give demos with cardboard models to clarify things, and share demo videos too.

3. Convincing people that their vote counts- It is a common conception that one vote does not make a difference. However, people need to be made to understand that each vote counts because every single vote is counted and is part of the final outcome of the elections. The ELC can explain the entire voting system to the people through visual representation and show them how they are the most important part of elections.

4. Enabling people to make logical choices- The ELCs can give live examples and explain how to choose a justified candidate. They can stress on the importance of being fair in judging the candidates and not falling into the trap of caste or religion based voting.

All these factors strengthen the belief in democracy and promote electoral registration.
