The “Fluoride” has very important role in the development of tooth in general and in the development of enamel in particular.

It is incorporated in the enamel at molecular level during developmental stage and form Fluoapatite after binding with the hydroxyapatite crystals of the enamel.

The fluorapatite is more resistant to caries when compared to hydroxyapatite. Therefore, enamel becomes more resistant to dental caries.

It also converts the outer layer of enamel’s hydroxyapatite into fluorapatite when a toothpaste containing fluoride is used regularly.

Therefore, we can conclude that “Fluoride” helps the in prevention of the development of dental caries.

Caution:

Fluoride may be harmful for teeth and can cause death in excessive or toxic dose.

Therefore, it is strongly advised to seek expert dental opinion before you go for using fluoride.
