Forests play a major role in preventing controlling floods . Tree stores water in its tree roots So, forests allow the water to go into the soil . Forests act as narural absorber of water. If the trees are not there the water may directly hit the soil. They also prevent the extreme water run - off and hence prevents landslides and topsoil erosion. Most of the flooding disaster is caused by deforestation. A forest cover of 30%-40% acts as a brake against flash floods and thus preventing enormous loss of lives and properties, and reducing the damage from flooding. Please people stop cutting trees and prevent it.

Forests play an important role in controlling floods. The trees slows down the flow of water. Forests act as a natural absorber of water. If there were no forests the water would have hit the soil directly. The rainwater seeps down into the soil due to forests and prevents flooding. Thus afforestation and reforestation must be encouraged and practised widely.
