Receptors are actually ATP involved structures which can respond to any 'very specific type of hormone' in the body... For eg, the receptors for FSH(Follicle Stimulating Hormone released from Pituitary gland in the brain) is only presnt in OVARIES OF HUMAN FEMALES and nowhere else in the body..... Further, receptors are of 2 types based on their positioning in the cell. As you have very kindly mentioned they are: INTRACELLULAR(within the cell) RECEPTORS and CELL SURFACE RECEPTORS(on the surface of the cell)....
