With her mother and grandmother at the hospital, Kezia was left with Alice, the cook. When she was put to bed by the cook she had a nightmare.

She called out for her grandmother but to her surprise she found her father standing near the bed. He took her in to his arms and made her sleep next to her. Half asleep she crept close to him, snuggled her head under his arms and hold tightly to his shirt. His father asked her to rub her feet against his legs for the warmth.

His father went to sleep before her which made her realise that he has to work too hard everyday that leaves him too tired to be like Mr. MacDonald. She expresses her altered feelings for her father by telling him that he has big heart.
