An influential left wing group developed in India in the late 1920s and 1930s contributing to  the radicalization of the national movement.

The left wing within the congress came to be symbolized by Jawahar Lai Nehru and Subhas Chandra Boss.  The stream  of the national struggle for independence and those of the oppressed came together.

The emergence of modern factory and industries system gave impetus to socialistic ideas in the congress, The left wing led to the growth of trade unions and they came under socialistic principles.

The socialistic ideas now began to spread rapidly because many young persons who had participated actively in the non cooperation movement were unhappy with it's outcome and were dissatisfied with the Gandhian principles and ideas. Several socialists and communist came in to existence all over the country.

The left wing in the congress profoundly affected the congress program-me and policy and led to the adoption of socialist vision after independence.

It was under the left wing in the congress that congress passed at the Feizpur reunion a policy statement on the Agrarian policy, which among others demanded end of forced labor, provision of security of tenancy and tenure to the peasants, and reduction of rents.

The left wing demanded the living wage for workers, special taxes on property and and state control and ownership of key industries.
