An MCB functions by interrupting the continuity of electrical flow through the circuit once a fault is detected. ... This mechanism is used to protect from the faults arising due to over current or over load. To protect against fault arising due to over heating or increase in temperature a bi-metallic strip is used.

MCB - Miniature Circuit breaker
This is a electrical device which controls the flow of electrons in the circuit. Their work is much similar to the fuses that they are mostly made of alloy's which starts to melt as the circuit takes up excess amt of energy. This happens during the overloading situvations.
These are installed in places to protect the electrical appliances from getting burnt due to overloading of electricity.
