Plants require non Metals like Nitrogen for their growth, oxygen and CO2 for photosynthesis etc. They require metal like Magnesium which is stored in leaves.etc. In animals non metals are almost very helpful as oxygen they inhale and CO2 they exhale, they are used in water purification, coal is used for burning.etc.
