2. MEANING OF VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATION A voluntary association or union also sometimes called a voluntary organization, unincorporated association, common-interest association, or just an association. Is a group of individuals who enter into an agreement as volunteers to form a body (or organization) to accomplish a purpose. Common examples include trade associations, trade unions, learned societies and professional associations, environmental groups, and various other types of groups.

Since independence from the British in 1947, the voluntary sector had a lot of respect in the minds of people- First because the father of the nation MAHATMA GANDHI was an active participant Second because India has always had the tradition of honoring those who have made some sacrifice to help others
