Philosophers have played a major role in the French Revolution. Philosophers like John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau have demanded for the rights of citizens to the government. Montesquieu, another philosopher, wrote about the division of power into Legislative, Executive and Judiciary in his book, 'The Spirit of the Law'. This shows how importance philosophers had in the French Revolution

philosophers played a very important role in French revolution like 1)John locke- Locke sought to refute the doctrine of kings and absolute monarchy 2)Jean Jacques Rousseau - he carried the idea forward proposing a form of government based on social contract between people and their representatives 3) Montesquieu - he proposed a division of power within the government between executive, legislature and judiciary. These ideas were discussed in coffee houses and salons and spread to people through books and newspaper and read aloud in groups for the benefit of those who could not read .
