Role of National Political Parties Before Independence. It's fair to say that Indian National Congress dominated the political landscape of India during the pre-independence era. Ever since it was formed in 1885, the party dedicated itself towards strengthening the nationalist movement against the British rule.

Answer:

India being a democratic country we have the "right to elect" the representatives of our country and these representatives who are part of a certain political parties have the "sole responsibility" of running their administration / running the government effectively. Also they are considered the watch dogs of the government with an objective of scrutinising the actions of their party and government on the whole.

1. They contest elections and they represent candidates.

2. The top party leaders of the political parties select their candidates to contest in the election.

3. Voters vote according to the policies and procedures of the political party. So, the political party must frame policies which enriches the lifestyle of the people.

4. The parties which lose the elections form the opposition. They watch every step taken by the ruling party and criticise them in case of their failures in governance.

5. The political parties serves as a link between the "people and the government".
