Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, remembered as iron man of India was a great man, visionary statesman, and pure patriot of India. He was the first Deputy Prime Minster of India. He not only played a pivotal role in the India’s struggle for independence, but also played the most crucial role in uniting India after independence.
Born on October 31, 1875 in Gujarat, he started his political career there; he launched many anti-British campaigns in Gujarat successfully. Under his leadership, India integrated as many as 565 self-governing princely states. He is known as the ‘Unifier of India’. His strategy and endeavor to unify Jammu and Kashmir, Junagadh, and Hyderabad were commendable. If he had not acted promptly, these territories would have been lost to Pakistan.
He is also known for creating All India Services. The contemporary All-India administrative services would not come into being, if he had not had a vision for them.
It is believed that India would have been a far stronger country if he would have been allowed to become the Prime Minister of India.
India honored this legendary statesman and patriot by dedicating his tallest statue of the world near Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujrat’s Narmada district on October 31, 2018.
