To maintain law and order in the district, several police officials are appointed. the highest police official in a district is the supremtendent of police who is answerable to the district collector. he is Assisted by other police officers in maintaining law and order in the district.

Below the superintendent of police is the deputy superintendent of police. Under him are the inspectors, sub inspectors, assistance sub inspectors, head constables, constables and chaukidars.
