Abstract
The paper focuses on inequality in plural societies, and questions whether the inverted 'U' hypothesis on the relationship between inequality and per capita income is as easily established as compared to more homogeneous societies. Since there are intervening structural factors that would disturb the neatness of that assumed relationship, economist need to apply alternative hupotheses in empirical work on distribution in such societies.
