Solution : Given,

Root mean square velocity of a molecule = 1000 m/s

The relation between the root mean square velocity and the average velocity of a molecule will be,

\mu_{av}=\sqrt{\frac{8RT}{\pi M}}\\\\\mu_{rms}=\sqrt{\frac{3RT}{M}}

By ratio of the root mean square velocity and the average velocity of a molecule will be,

\frac{\mu_{av}}{\mu_{rms}}=\sqrt{\frac{8}{\pi \times 3}}=0.9215\\\\\mu_{av}=0.9215\times 1000m/s=921.5m/s

Therefore, the average velocity of the molecule is, 921.5 m/s
