Given:

Rosie and dan share some sweets.

Dan gets ¼ of sweets

To find:

Write down the ratio of the number of sweets Rosie to the number of sweets Dan gets

Solution:

Let "x" be the no. of sweets shared between Rosie and Dan

Then,

The no. of sweets Dan gets = ¼ of total sweets = \frac{x}{4}

∴ The remaining no. of sweets that Rosie gets is,

=   x - \frac{x}{4}

=  \frac{4x - x}{4}

=  \frac{3x}{4}

Now,

The ratio of no. of sweets between them is,

=  \frac{No\:of\:sweets\:with \:Rosie}{No.\:of\:sweets \:with Dan}

=  \frac{\frac{3x}{4} }{\frac{x}{4} }

=  \frac{3x}{4} \times \frac{4}{x}

=  \bold{3:1}

Thus, the ratio of the number of sweets Rosie gets to the number of sweets Dan gets is → 3 : 1.
