Well, if armature rotates and field poles are provided on the stator, we will be needing three heavy slip rings to collect armature current. Also, these slip rings will have to be insulated for generator voltage (normally 11kv-33kv). This will be a disadvantage when compared to the case when armature is provided on stator and field on the rotor. In that case (normal case), we need only two slip rings to feed field power involving much less voltage and current as compared to armature.
