The Rowlatt act was opposed by people of India because there was no civil liberty for indians.It is also known by Black act.Under this act British government can imprison any person without any trial and conviction in a court..

(1) Rowlatt act was an oppressive act introduced by the British government in 1919.it gave the government enormous powers to repress political activities and allowed detention of political prisoners without trial for two years.

(2) Indians disapproved this act in the following ways:

  • Rallies were organised in varies cities, workers went on strick in railways, workshops and offices were closed down.
  • A peaceful protest meaning was organised at jallianwala bagh in amritsir.
  • gandhiji started a hartal against this unjust law on 6th April, 1919.
  • Dr satyapal and Dr saifuddin kitchlew were arrested.
  • Jallianwala bagh messacre occurred against the arrest of these leaders.
