Rs 1760 was divided between a and b


x + y = 1760...(1)


1/3rd of a's profit will be equal to 2/5th of b's profit

(1/3)×x = (2/5)×y

x/3= 2y/5

x= 2y×3/5 = 6y/5...(2)

(2) in (1)

x + y = 1760

6y/5 + y = 1760

6y +5y / 5 = 1760

6y + 5y = 1760 × 5 = 8800

11y= 8800

y = 8800/11 = 800

Share of B = 800....(3)

(3) in (1)..

x + y = 1760

x + 800 = 1760

x = 1760 - 800 = 960

Share of A = 960
