Given:

Rs7 ,Rs9,Rs63 are in continued proportion.

To Find:

Are Rs7 ,Rs9,Rs63(continued proportion) are in proportion or not.

Basic Information Required

  • The proportion in which the middle terms are same is called Continued proportion.
  • (middle term)²=product of extreme terms i.e. b²=ac where terms are a,b, b and c.

Solution

The continued proportion of Rs7 ,Rs9,Rs63 is:

₹7 : ₹9::₹9 : ₹63

Now , the above proportion is true then it should satisfy the equation

⇒(middle term )²=product of extreme term

Here ,middle term is 9 and extreme terms are 7 and 63 ,

⇒(9)² = 7 × 63

⇒81 ≠ 441

Therefore ,Rs7,Rs9 and Rs63 are not in proportion.
