Basic rules are given below

1. The passive voice have to contain the third form of the main verb.

2. Change subject to the object in the passive voice.

3. Only transitive verbs can be used in the passive voice.

4. Prepositions like by  take position in the passive voice.

Examples :

Simple present - He sings a song

A song is sung by him.

Present Continuous - He is teaching me

I'm being taught by him.

Present Perfect - He has taken a cup of tea

A cup of tea has been taken by him.

Past indefinite - They created buildings

Buildings were created by them.

Past continuous - He was learning this lesson

This lesson was being learnt by him.

Past perfect - He had already done his work

His work had already been done by him.

Future indefinite - He will teach this lesson

This lesson will be taught by him.

Future Perfect - He shall have sold this house

This house will have been sold by him.

RULES TO CHANGE ACTIVE TO PASSIVE VOICE:-

  1. The structure changes from subject+verb+object to object+ verb.
  2. The passive voice is made up of the verb be with a past participles: Windows have been cleaned. Lunch is being served.
  3. If we want to show the person or thing doing the action we use by : She was attacked by a dangerous dog . The monkey was stolen by her servant .
