Let the distance be = x km

Then time taken while walking at 5kmph = x/5 hr

And time taken while walking at 6kmph = x/6 hr

From the question it is clear that time taken while walking at 5 kmph is (9+7=16 mins=16/60 hours) more than that while walking at 6 kmph.

So (x/5) = (x/6) + (16/60)

(x/5) - (x/6) = 16/60

x/30 = 16/60

x = 8 km is the distance between your house and station.
