Step-by-step explanation:

let no. of person be x

one person gets =360/x

if x+2

one person gets = 360/x+2

360/x -360/x+2 =2

solve this equation you get answer

2x^2 +4x -720=0

x^2 +2x -360=0

x^2 +20x -18x -360=0

x(x+20) -18(x+20) =0

x=18

there were 18 people originally

Given: Total rupees = 360

           Rs 360 divided equally among a certain number of person

           Had there been 2 more persons each would have got RS.2 less

To find: x = original no of persons = ?

Solution:  The resulting equation is a follows:

                 \frac{360}{x}-\frac{360}{x+2} =2

                 360(x+2)-360x=2(x)(x+2)

                 360x+720-360x=2(x^{2}+2x)

                 720=2x^{2} +4x

                 2x^{2}+4x-720=0

                The solutions of a quadratic equation is given by:  \frac{-b\pm\sqrt{(b^{2}-4ac) }}{2a}

                The solutions are +18 and -20. Since our answer cannot be

                negative, the original number of persons was 18.
