Heya

Russia was rules over by Tsars. During the ww2, russian economy was hit very badly and it had lost lives of millions of soldiers and civilians. A large quantity of food was diverted to the war than to the people. People were desperate for food and peace. On March 8th 1917, there cropped up a protest by common people. Tsar Nicholas was very upset with this and sent his army to suppress the revolt. Surprisingly, rather than suppressing it, the army themselves joined he people and supported their protest. The situation went out of control and Tsar had to descend the throne. So, I think Russia's participation in the world war has lead to the fall of Tsar.

Answer:

Hey mate,

Here's your answer:-

1. The war was initially popular and people rallied around Tsar Nicholas II.

2. The war continued, support became thin and Tsar's popularity declined. Anti-German sentiments became high.

3. The Tsarina Alexandra's German origins and poor advisers, especially a monk called Rasputin, made the autocracy unpopular.

4. Defeats were shocking and demoralising. Russia's armies lost badly in Germany and Austria between 1914 and 1916. There were over 7 million casualties by 1917.

5. The destruction of crops and buildings led to over 3 million refugees in Russia. The situation discredited the government and the Tsar.
