Rust is an iron oxide, a usually red powdery substance formed bythe reaction of iron and oxygen in the presence of water or air moisture. It is also called oxidation reaction as it takes place in the presence of oxygen. Presence of salty water enhances the process of rusting. To protect from being rusted, the iron metal can be treated in different ways. For example: oiling, painting or galvanization. Making alloys is another way to protect the metal from corrosion. Most of the metals reacts with air when exposed to it and form a coating on them.Oxidation of metals is not always undesirable, for example aluminium. The coating of oxide on the surface of aluminium sheet is extremely hard and abrasion resistant preventing any further reaction with oxygen and it can be dyed to make it colored, making it an ideal material for mobile phones. 1) Metal surface reacts with oxygen and the moisture present in the air and get coated with
a) oxide
b) carbonate
