Rusting of iron refers to the formation of rust, a mixture of iron oxides, on the surface of iron objects or structures. This rust is formed from reaction between oxygen and iron in the environment containing water. The rusting of iron is characterized by the formation of a layer of a red flaky substance that easily crumbles into powder. The term rusting is generally used to refer to the corrosion of objects made up of iron. Corrosion causes damage to car bodies, bridges, iron railings, ships etc. It is a serious problem. Every year an enormous amount of money is spent to replace damaged iron.

That rusting of iron decrease the efficiency of the object and make it weaker. The formation of rust(iron oxides) on any object is very harmful and it deteriorates that object.
