Because the revolution of the electron in a circular orbit is not expected to be stable. Any particle in the circular orbit will undergo accelaration. During accelaration charge particles would radiate energy.Thus,the revolving electrons would lose energy and finally fall into the nucleus. If this were so, the atoms woyld be highly unstable but we know atoms are quite stable. Therefore, rutherford model of an atom could not provide stability to the nucleus.
