Ryan's mp3 player has 34 songs on it. There are 12 country songs, 10 rock songs, and 12 jazz songs. If Ryan randomly selects 2 songs, without replacement, what is the probability that one song will be country and one song will be rock?

Answer:

Total no. of songs in Ryan's mp3 player = 34

No. of country songs =  12

No. of rock songs = 10

Therefore, Probability that 1 song is a country song = 12/34 = 6/17

Probability that 1 song is a rock song = 10/32 = 5/17

(If you want it both combined then...)

No. of country songs + No.of rock songs = 12 + 10 = 22

Therefore, the probability that 1 song is rock and 1 song is country = 22/34 = 11/17
