Q. 11. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:
[HSLC 2000]
As you know a great many people in India cannot read or write. They are
illiterate. This is not their fault. They had never had the chance to learn to
read. But we know, too, that our country cannot progress as it should do if
majority of the people are ignorant and uneducated. If we are to be the best
kind of citizen, we must be educated. We must at least be able to read books
and newspapers and magazines. Now those of us, who have had the chance
to go to school and to be educated, have been given something of which
many of our neighbours have been deprived. They therefore, need our help.
Questions : (a) Write true or false against each of the following sentences:
(i) The Indian people cannot read or write.
(ii) Many people do not get the chance to read or write.
(b) Fame a sentence of your own , using the word 'neighbours' in the
passage
(c) What is the opposite of the word 'majority in the passage?
(d) What is the meaning of the word 'illiterate in the passage?
(e) What is the adjective form of the world fault' in the passage?
