Given :-

◉ A body moves to a height of h = 125 m in time t = 5 seconds and then come back to the point of projection.

◉ g = 10 m/s²

To Find :-

◉ Average speed and Average velocity

◉ Total distance and displacement

Solution :-

First, Let me relieve the pressure of finding average velocity and total displacement.

Given in the question that the body comes back to the point of projection. Hence, displacement made is 0 and so the average velocity because displacement is the shortest path length between final and initial position.

So, We have to find the total distance and average speed.

Now, In a free fall motion, the distance travelled and time taken while ascending is equal to the distance travelled and time taken while descending.

So, Total distance travelled = 2 × Height

⇒ Total distance = 2 × 125

Total distance = 250 m

Similarly, Total time taken = 2 × Time taken while ascending

⇒ Total time taken = 2 × 5

Total time taken = 10 s

Further,

⇒ Average speed = Total distance / total time

⇒ avg. speed = 250 / 10

Average speed = 25 m/s

So, We found that,

  • Total displacement = 0 m
  • Average velocity = 0 m/s
  • Total distance travelled = 250 m
  • Average speed = 25 m/s
