While titration, the zero mark of the lower meniscus is considered as the starting point because water droplets tend to attach to the walls of the side of the glass cylinder. But this stickiness is not found to occur in the middle because of which straight level of water can not be noted.

A meniscus can be referred to as the curvature that is seen or noted on the water surface.

Hence to have an error free measurement the we mark the lower meniscus from our view point in case of liquids that are colourless.
