Answer :

x = 5/2 , 5/8

Solution :

  • Given : 4(2x - 3)² - (2x - 3) - 14 = 0
  • To find : x = ?

Here ,

The given equation is ;

4(2x - 3)² - (2x - 3) - 14 = 0

Putting 2x - 3 = y , the given equation will be reduced to ;

4y² - y - 14 = 0

Now ,

=> 4y² - y - 14 = 0

=> 4y² - 8y + 7y - 14 = 0

=> 4y(y - 2) + 7(y - 2) = 0

=> (y - 2)(4y + 7) = 0

=> Either y - 2 = 0 OR 4y + 7 = 0

★ Case1 : If y - 2 = 0

=> y - 2 = 0

=> y = 2

=> 2x - 3 = 2

=> 2x = 2 + 3

=> 2x = 5

=> x = 5/2

★ Case2 : If 4y + 7 = 0

=> 4y + 7 = 0

=> 4(2x - 3) + 7 = 0

=> 8x - 12 + 7 = 0

=> 8x - 5 = 0

=> 8x = 5

=> x = 5/8

Hence ,

Required answer is x = 5/2 or 5/8 .
