I think the best way to overcome such situations is to talk to that person.So,talk to her and try to find out if she is ok (not directly).Because my mom too was behaving wierdly when her parents were ill, and the most common reason for a short temper is nothing but stress.Secondly, do not speak anything unnecessarily till she is fine again,but help her out in any way u can.
