Position equation of moving particle has been provided.

  • S = t³ - 6t² + 9t

We have to find displacement of particle in 3rd second.

What is displacement !

Displacement is defined as the shortest distance b/w initial and final position of the entire journey.

In short,

  • Displacement = Δ(Position)

Position of particle at t = 2s :

⇒ S = t³ - 6t² + 9t

⇒ S(2) = 2³ - 6(2)² + 9(2)

⇒ S(2) = 8 - 24 + 18

S(2) = 2m

Position of particle at t = 3s :

⇒ S = t³ - 6t² + 9t

⇒ S(3) = 3³ - 6(3)² + 9(3)

⇒ S(3) = 27 - 54 + 27

S(3) = 0m

Displacement in 3rd second :

➝ d = S(3) - S(2)

➝ d = 0 - 2

d = -2m
