S02 acts as an oxidising and reducing agent .why?

The oxidation state in SO2 is +4...this tells that it can loose 2 electrons to gain the oxidation state of +6...also it can gain to electrons to get an oxidation state of -2...this is the lowest oxidation state of a compound....this tells us that it has the capacity to both loose and gain electrons so it acts as oxidising and reducing agent....hope it helps
