Common salt:
- Sodium chloride (NaCl) is prepared by the reaction between sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) with hydrochloric acid (HCl)
- Take sodium bicarbonate with hydrochloric acid and allow them to react, which will result in salt (NaCl), water (H2O), and carbon dioxide (CO2).
NaHCO3 + HCl => NaCl + H2O + CO2
Alum (2 KAl(SO4 )2 ⋅12 H2O):
- Take Aluminum sulfate (Al2 (SO4 )) and dissolve it on boiling water (H2O).
- Potassium sulfate (K2 SO4) is then constantly stirred and sulfuric acid is added.
- The solution is then alowed to cool at room temperature, during the cooling potassium alum crystallizes.
- The solution i sthen filtered and teh liquid is evaporated.
- Recrystallization the solution for one or two more times to get pure potassium alum.
- Potassium alum will formed which will be large, colorless, octohedral crystals.
