Method of preparation of actual solution of common salt and alum is as following:

Common salt:

  1. Sodium chloride (NaCl) is prepared by the reaction between sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) with hydrochloric acid (HCl)
  2. Take sodium bicarbonate with hydrochloric acid and allow them to react, which will result in salt (NaCl),  water  (H2O), and carbon dioxide (CO2).

              NaHCO3   + HCl => NaCl + H2O  + CO2

Alum (2 KAl(SO4 )2 ⋅12 H2O):

  1. Take Aluminum sulfate (Al2 (SO4 )) and dissolve it on boiling water (H2O).
  2. Potassium sulfate (K2 SO4) is then constantly stirred and sulfuric acid is added.
  3. The solution is then alowed to cool at room temperature, during the cooling potassium alum crystallizes.
  4. The solution i sthen filtered and teh liquid is evaporated.
  5. Recrystallization the solution for one or two more times to get pure potassium alum.
  6. Potassium alum will formed which will be large, colorless, octohedral crystals.

      K2SO4  + Al2 (SO4 )3 + 24H2O => 2 KAl(SO4 )2 ⋅12 H2O
