The prices of book and the pen are Rs 40 and Rs 5 respectively.

Let the price of the book bought by Sabina be Rs 'b' and the price of the pen be Rs 'p'.

The first part of the problem tells that their combined cost is Rs 45. So, we can write it as:

b + p = 45                                           ...(1)

In the the second part of the problem, it is given that the cost of book is 8 times more than the pen. So, we can write it as:

b = 8p                                                  ...(2)

So, substituting b = 8p in eqn.(1), we get,

8p + p = 45

⇒9p = 45

⇒p = 45/9 = 5

Putting the value of p = 5 in eqn.(2), we get,

b = 8(5) = 40

So, price of the book = Rs 'b' = Rs 40 and the price of the pen= Rs 'p' = Rs 5
