Step-by-step explanation:
Let’s assume this number is ‘n’.
25 is added to 3 times a number. Meaning that you have you have to calculate the 3 times a certain number then add 25. This equals 70.
So it will be (3*n)+25=70
This is the tricky bit. We have to negate the +25 to make it 0. So we -25. We have to do this to both sides.
Now it will be 3*n=70–25
3*n=45
Why do we minus the 25? Not divide it? Because, before we were ADDING the 25, so to negate it or do the opposite, we minus it. So then why do we do the +25 first not the 3 or n?
If we do n, we would have to divide it as it is multiplying 3. Then it would be come like this. (3*n÷n)+25=70÷n. Messed up AND complicated.
Why don’t we do 3? Well, we have to do it in order, from the right/bottom(but not in this equation). To negate something means to do the opposite of a certain thing. Since we are doing to opposite, then the order will be opposite as well.
Now 3*n=45
We do not ÷ n because we have to do it both sides. so 3*n÷n=45÷n
3=45÷n which makes sense but it increases an unnecessary step.
We divide 3 and n=15.
3*n÷3=45÷3
n=15
Why do we divide by 3 not take 3? If you switch it around, to n*3, this is the same thing as 3*n.
