"It's not necessary that you have to clap for them; just take care of your cricket, do something good, and people will clap for you."
This advice, which his coach, Ramakant Achrekar, gave him when he was at school, Sachin Tendulkar reminisced on Teachers' day.
Achrekar, Sachin recalled in a video on his Twitter handle, had asked him to bat at No. 4 for the senior team at a Harris Shield match. Sachin, then a junior player, went to the Wankhede to see the senior team already batting. So, he just sat and cheered for them. Achrekar, arriving a while later, wasn't pleased to see his ward not playing the game. That was when he advised little Sachin.
The advice, Sachin said on Tuesday, was the greatest lesson of his life.
