Tanaji Malusare is the answer.

He was a commander of Maratha Empire, who had significant role in the battle of Sinhagad.

In 1960, though he scarified his life in the attempt to conquer the fort, his brother stood till the end and won the battle.

In praise of Tanaji, the then Emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji exclaimed 'gad alaa pan sinha gelaa!', meaning that the fort is conquered but the lion is dead.
