Answer:

The earthing of metallic appliances is necessary to prevent severe electric shock to the users. The metallic body of electric appliances is connected to earth wire so that any leakage of electric current is transferred to the ground.

Earthing is mandatory to prevent severe shock to a user when there is a leakage of current to a metallic body of any electric appliance.

Explanation: Earthing is the electrical wire used to minimise the risk of receiving an electric shock while touching any metallic parts as it has protective conductor in earth wire . It provides path for faulty current to flow to earth . Earthing plays a vital role in ensuring safe generation , transmission and distribution of an electric system . Due to faulty earthing , individual may get shock when exposed to metal or water . Therefore electric wiring in the house , shops or factories has three wires which are live , neutral and earth . Live and neutral wire is used to carry electric current and third wire is earthen through a metal wire . Appliances which has metallic bodies like TV , refrigerator are connected to an earth wire so when any faulty or live wire touches the body the charge flows to earth without damaging any appliances .
